McDonnell has recently stated his intentions to prove he is a class above his latest contender, Naoya Inoue as the two battle it out for the title of WBA bantamweight.
This will be the seventh defence of his WBA “regular” belt title against Inoue, and McDonnell maintains that he is not daunted by the upcoming fight.
Inoue is currently seeking a world title in a third weight division, but McDonnell insists that his skills in the ring will be enough to beat Inoue.
McDonnell has told reporters, “Right now I am in unbelievable physical and mental shape like never before. I have a good understanding that Naoya Inoue is a great boxer and a knockout artist, and he’s one of the best fighters in the world, pound-for-pound, but I can box with anyone. I am unbeaten for the last 10 years and I am a long-time world champion for four years.”
Inoue is currently regarded as one of the best fighters in the world, with 13 knockouts in 14 wins. His latest victories come in the form of knockouts against Omar Narvaez for the WBO super-flyweight title, and Adrian Hernandez for the WBC light-flyweight belt.
Despite this, it will still be a hard fight for Inoue against McDonnell, who is fully committed to showing his potency in the ring. “I came to Japan to prove that I am a strong world champion. I am very excited and motivated with this fight against Naoya Inoue. I am convinced that I am the best bantamweight in the world,” McDonnell concluded.
